A Sacred Offering to Sadhus and Pilgrims in the Divine Land of Arunachala

Performing Annadanam (the offering of food) is one of the most revered and noble acts in Hinduism. It is said that feeding others is akin to feeding the divine, especially when done in a sacred place like Arunachala Kshetra on the auspicious day of Dwadashi.

The days of Ekadashi and Dwadashi hold special significance in Hindu tradition, as they are beloved by Lord Vishnu. Many devotees observe a fast on Ekadashi, and break it on Dwadashi by consuming wholesome meals. During Dwadashi and Purnima days in Tiruvannamalai, we at Satguru Charitable Trust organize a special Annadhana Seva to feed Sadhus and pilgrims walking the Girivalam path.

The Tradition of Dwadashi Annadanam in Puranas

The significance of Dwadashi Annadanam is beautifully illustrated in the ancient Puranas. Legends tell us that great devotees like Dhruva and Prahlada observed this sacred practice. After performing Vishnu puja in their palaces, they would provide food to everyone in their kingdom on Dwadashi days, ensuring that no one went hungry.

Many devotees who fast on Ekadashi eagerly anticipate the Dwadashi Annadanam, where they break their fast with nutritious and satisfying meals. In ancient times, householders would invite visitors and pilgrims to their homes, serve them sumptuous meals in the morning, and only eat after ensuring their guests were well-fed.

Dwadashi Annadhana Seva in Tiruvannamalai

At Satguru Charitable Trust, we honor this age-old tradition by offering Annadanam to thousands of Sadhus and pilgrims on the Dwadashi and Purnima days in Tiruvannamalai. The Girivalam path, which surrounds the sacred Arunachala Hill, sees lakhs of pilgrims throughout the year, especially on these auspicious days.

To support these spiritual seekers, we provide tasty, nutritious meals that help nourish them during their pilgrimage. The Annadanam begins in the morning and continues until every Sadhu and pilgrim has been fed, ensuring that their physical needs are met as they seek spiritual fulfillment.
